In the United States today, there are over 20.4 million veterans that surround us everyday, but little do you know of their problems. Veterans today face the problems of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), Suicide and Homelessness. These problems are only a few out of the many that affect our veterans.
PTSD Among Veterans
Today, over 11-20% out of 100 veterans face the struggle of PTSD, which stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is caused by traumatic experiences. Examples of traumatic experiences can include: abuse, serious accidents, natural disasters, war, etc. Veterans with PTSD are constantly in a war within their mind, always being reminded of their traumatic experiences which results in them not being able to cope with everyday life. PTSD is known to cause depression, which can eventually lead to suicide.
Suicide Among Veterans
In the recent years, suicide among veterans has increased due to PTSD, depression and guilt. Many veterans feel hopeless and they turn to suicide as their only relief of pain. If you are struggling and have ever contemplated suicide, please contact the National Suicide Prevention (1-800-273-8255) for professional help regarding this matter.

Homelessness Among Veterans
The U.S Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that 11% of all the homeless people in the United States are veterans. Many of these veterans struggle with mental disorders, substance abuse, and alcoholism. An additional 1.4 million veterans are on the verge of homelessness. In order to best help these veterans, people should give food or compassion rather than money.
